Take Note

We as people seem to think those dealing with chronic illnesses expect you to say so much to them. We think that, “I’m sorry,” isn’t enough. We try to come up with all these sayings like, “I hope you feel better soon,” “troubles won’t last always,” “this is only a test,” “this is only a season,” etc.

The fact of the matter is, although those are pleasant statements, reality for those suffering from most chronic illnesses is they have been told by medical professionals they will never be better. Most of these illnesses don’t have a cure. It won’t just go away. To these persons your words are not comforting and truly show you don’t have a clear understanding of their sickness.

In this case less is more. Simple statements can go really far. Simple statements can travel to the depths of the hearts of the receiver.

“I’m sorry!”

“Praying for you.”

“How can I help?”

“Do you need anything?”

“I’m here for you!”

“I care!”

These statements can change the face of your relationships….
